What sets the price on a liquid damage repair?
MacBook water damage repair cost tracks how far the spill traveled. A top-case spill that stops at the keyboard & battery assembly is one job; liquid that reaches the logic board is another. Corrosion keeps spreading while current flows, so minutes powered on move the price.
Cost variables on a spill-damaged MacBook
- Which assembly the liquid reached. On many MacBook models the keyboard & battery are bonded into one top-case assembly, so a spill that stops at the keys is a different job from one that ran down into the logic board.
- How long it stayed powered. Current flowing through a wet board keeps the electrochemical reaction running & keeps eating copper, which makes time-powered-on a cost variable, not only a risk variable. A board shut down in ten seconds is cheaper to repair than the same board somebody spent a week trying to boot.
- How many separate circuits need rework. One corroded rail is a short session at the bench. Damage spread across the charging circuit, the backlight circuit, & the main power rail is quoted as several repairs on one board, because that is what it is.
- Whether the damaged part is still sold. Some components we buy in reels. Others were never sold separately & have to come off a donor board, which adds sourcing time & part cost to the quote.

The repair itself gets quoted per model once the board is on the bench & we know what the liquid ate. There's no diagnostic fee for that look. Getting the data off a MacBook that isn't worth repairing
One liquid-damage outcome does carry a published number. Why the data path is board repair, not chip removal
On T2 & Apple Silicon MacBooks the NAND is soldered to the logic board, while the storage controller & the Secure Enclave that holds the keys sit inside the T2 or the M-series SoC. Desolder that NAND, read it on a dedicated NAND reader, & you get ciphertext; the keys never leave the Secure Enclave. So the recovery is the same work as the logic board repair: clean the corrosion off, replace the components the liquid ate under a microscope with a Hakko FM-2032, & bring the board up far enough that the SoC's inline AES engine, keyed by the Secure Enclave, decrypts in place & the volume mounts. All of it happens at our Austin lab.
Can a water-damaged MacBook be fixed?
Usually yes, & the honest version is that it depends on the same variables that set the price: how long the board sat wet, how long it stayed powered while it was wet, & how many separate circuits the corrosion reached. Those variables set feasibility as well as cost.
What usually settles it is whether the liquid ate the parts or ate the board underneath them: a corroded component comes off & a replacement goes on, while copper the current already ate out from under one has to be rebuilt before anything can go back on top of it. That is where the question turns from how to repair the board into whether the board is worth repairing.
That call gets made with the board out of the case & under a microscope, not from a photo or a phone call. Water damage doesn't show up as one fault; it shows up as whatever the liquid landed on, so the affected rails get traced after the ultrasonic clean rather than guessed at beforehand. A flat-rate board replacement is the answer you can quote without opening anything; a component-level answer needs the board on the bench first.
