I sent in an external hard drive that bricked on me. Its a drive I plug in once a year, dump phone videos, photos, and then back on the shelf til next year. This year I went to free up some space and found the drive wouldn't respond. It had the first 10 years of my daughter growing up and I was freaking out. I had almost accepted they were gone until a friend at work mentioned RRG. I crossed my fingers and sent in the drive, not expecting good news (or some astronomical fee that would force me to put a price on those memories). I consulted Rossmann Repair Group for data recovery services. A new IT client was recently referred to me, because his main computer crashed and his business database went offline as a result. It turned out that the computer crashed because its main storage, a 500 GB Solid State Hybrid Drive, failed. That part was easy - replace it with a new 1 TB SSD and reinstall Windows along with the software he uses. However, the data on the SSHD was critical and would have meant serious problems for his business if he didn't get that back. That's where Rossmann Repair Group came in. I would give this place and service 10 stars if I could. I spilled the smallest amount of water on my 2015 Macbook Air space bar (the size of a quarter). It was in perfect condition before that. The computer bugged out and shut down. I went to the Apple Genius Bar to get it looked at and hopefully fixed. Though friendly, they did nothing to actually help and just told me that I didn't get water on the hard drive, but since it wasn't turning on, I needed to buy a new laptop - never again will I go there. A friend I was complaining to suggested Rossman Group, which I wasn't far from so I thought it was worth a trip - and it certainly was! I regret not getting the service guy's name, but he assessed the issue and told me I only needed to replace the track pad cable ($75 + tax), while teaching me some things about hardware along the way (i.e. rice does nothing for liquid damage, Macbook Air's after 2017 are garbage, the screw driver to open your computer safely is a WHIA Pentable 4, etc). I've never been so thrilled to spend $75 before - vs. the $1,100 Apple tried to get me out of me for a new machine. My computer was saved and works perfectly as it should. Could not be more grateful - a miracle on First Avenue!

I was a LaCie user for four years when an accidental drop from my desk resulted in LOSING all access to my drive. So much for the "durable" orange protective casing. All of my client's projects and years of work lost in a second. I was desperate and like many others, immediately googled and youtubed as many solutions as I could find. I tried everything short of breaking the manufacturer seal. As it turns out, dropping a LaCie while it's running can sometimes damage the internal heads that read your data. Your options are a deadly 50/50 chance of success DIY or Rossman. I needed to know I had done my best to recover all the data so I sent my drive to Rossman. They were incredible from the start. In my panic I sent my package to the wrong address, THEY PICKED IT UP FOR ME. They informed me every step of the way where they were in the process of recovering my data. 5 weeks later and I just received my drive back with 95% of everything on my LaCie. If you need your data recovery done right choose Rossman.

I used their mail-in service and followed their simple instructions on how to send it it. First fill out a form, then you get a ticket number and write it down and put it in the box you ship the device in. Few days later from delivery I got an email indicating diagnosis was beginning. 2 days later I got a full quote and was fairly priced, and was accurate on what their website had stated it possibly could total up to be. 2 days later, it's completed and shipped out Rather spending 600+ for a new board from Apple, with no possibility of data recovery, I got to keep the same board, retain my data, and was done cheaper in the same amount of time it would have taken to do their mail in service which is what the Apple store would have done. Amazing how I went from a MacBook that was completely dead, no signs of power going through tthe board, to a smooth running as good as new Mac. Highly recommend their services and his YouTube channel.

I have a 2016 15" MacBook Pro with touch bar, which crashed randomly and wouldn't restart. I tried a bunch of things over next couple of days but no dice. Figured it was dead.Took it to Apple Store (W 14th St). Their Genius took it apart in a back room and told me the logic board is dead and quoted $678 to fix it, with loss of all data.I went to Rossmann nearby to ask about data recovery (having researched various options and finding lots of recommendations for this place). The guy at the front desk took it apart in front of me and found the issue in 10 seconds. A small screw had become dislodged and was wedged between two components on the board. Worked fine after removing that.No cost (I gave the guy a tip).Amazing.Added bonus: my faith in humanity is renewed. (My faith in Apple is much reduced)Can't recommend this place enough.read more

What can I say? These guys are the best at what they do. I brought in a 2019 Macbook Pro that suffered from an entire beer bottle spill. At the end of all the repairs, a month later of getting it back, it kept panicking and shutting off with high cpu usage tasks. They then refunded me the repair costs since it was not able to be saved. I ended up also selling it to them for parts and now happy with my Lenovo. My two friends who I also referred are super happy with their services as well. They are also just finished a hard drive recovery and transferred the data to a new hard drive for me. I can't wait to tell people about my trip to Rossmann Repair Group™®©°.I walked in there to ask quotes on replacing an old HHD in my laptop with a new SSD.The second I walked in I KNEW this place was ~special~."What up Rossman?" I bellowed as I entered, despite never being a customer before."What it is, NERD" retorted Rossman, decked out in some weird mixture of a dog and raver-clown costume.While I tried explaining that I was looking to replace my HHD with an SSD he interrupted and said "hold on a minute", and immediately jumped the counter and started rolling around on the floor, ecstatically, like some sort of mad man."I'm a pew-pew roller coaster on my way to tinsel town, and not a hogwash in a tornado can stop me!" he exclaimed.He then made "airplane noises" as he went around and around on the floor.I was shocked and amused."I'll puck off every straw kettle this side of the Mason Dixie line! Even the spanked tangerine ones! I ain't no bigot!" he continued.I didn't know what to think.Just then another customer entered the store.Rossman jumped up and loudly stomped up to the customer, very child-like."I am very mister business man to meet you" Rossman said, as he stuck out his hand in a shaking gesture.But the costumer just collapsed into gleaming sands! No kidding!Rossman turned to me in amazement and said "DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS? WE'RE PRESIDENT PARTIES NOW!".I had no idea what that meant, but that was just the beginning of our adventures.2 million years later and a Time Trucker later, we arrived back at his store (and hour before I originally entered) and he quoted me a price on SSDs, drive cloning and labor.Best darn repair shop ever.He was the best friend a guy could ask for and the greatest space pilot I'd ever known, (and an ever better repair man!).Here's to you, Rossman!read more

I had the pleasure of visiting the Rossmann Repair Group in NYC one day almost two years ago as friends of mine needed an evaluation of a broken Macbook Pro, a bad hard drive and possible data transfer. Louis Rossmann greeted us immediately and was very friendly and patient. He told us exactly what the problem was and said that the Macbook Pro was beyond repair due to bad GPU connections. In fact he saw this as soon as he turned it on, he could detect very faint lines on the screen which indicated this issue. He was very honest about this, he said that some places would get it to work for a while by heating it up and charging a few hundred dollars, but that the repair would not last long and it would certainly fail again.My friend asked him if he could transfer the data from the Macbook to a Mac Mini so it would work like the Macbook. He said he could and it would take a couple of days. We returned a few days later to pick everything up. The cost was very reasonable and my friends were very satisfied with the service. He gave the bad HD back to us, said it would require sending to a recovery center. Just honest. No ripoffs.In this tech repair industry, dishonesty is very common since tech people know the average person has no clue about any of this technology and there is almost no chance they would know if they are being fooled or how much the repair is really worth. I know this well since I also do computer and electronics repair and support myself and I know how easy it would be to fool customers left and right! I don't do this and I highly appreciate other tech experts who aren't tempted to profit from people's trust and innocence!So in summary, if you don't want to get ripped of and lied to, and are looking for a highly competent reliable technician, make sure you go here with your Mac equipment. If you like, you can stop by an Apple Genius bar first for a good laugh, while they give you the wrong diagnosis, quote you an insanely high repair price, and try to convince you to buy a whole new unit.Finally, if you want to be amazed, look for Louis Rossmann on YouTube and watch some of his videos where he shows exactly how he repairs the "unrepairable" and inspires many others to do their own repairs, start their own repair businesses and with his tireless entrepreneurial positive attitude even motivates disillusioned young students to not give up on school and go to college! (In fact one student said he was about to give up on education but after watching Louis on YouTube he made the decision to enter Med school! Now that's remarkable!)Louis is such a great guy, that in some cases where the issue is very minor, like a bad cable, he even does the repair for no charge! Try to find anybody who is willing to do anything for no charge these days! (The Genius bar would certainly tell you that your unit has been water damaged, when it wasn't, (maybe was in a humid room which would turn the water indicators red!) and quote you $1000 for a repair that would cost them $7 for the cable)Louis Rossmann is a hero, one of those rare individuals who make positive contributions to individuals and society every single day. I am pretty sure that anybody who gives him a bad review probably either is part of Apple, or considers Apple to be some kind of religious deity.read more
