WD My Passport & Encrypted External Hard Drive Data Recovery; T2 Translator Specialists

At Rossmann Repair Group, we are proud to offer advanced T2 translator recovery services for Western Digital (WD) drives, particularly those with encrypted storage. Using the latest PC3000 tools, we recover data from devices that other recovery labs claim aren't recoverable.

Why Rossmann Repair?

What Types of Products Benefit from T2 Translator Recovery?

  1. External Hard Drives:

    • Popular models like WD My Passport and WD Elements often use T2 encryption translators to protect user data.
  2. Encrypted Portable Drives:

    • WD drives with hardware encryption, such as WD My Passport Ultra and similar models, rely on T2 translators to secure files.
  3. NAS Devices with WD Drives:

    • Network-attached storage (NAS) systems that use WD drives with encryption also rely on T2 translator technology. Typical users include:
      • Small business owners running Synology or QNAP NAS systems for backups.
      • Home users who store digital libraries, including music, movies, and photos.

Challenges of Recovering Data from WD Drives with T2 Translators

T2 translators enable advanced encryption but create big roadblocks for data recovery:

  1. Conflicting Translation Data:
    • Encrypted drives often contain multiple versions of translation data. Without the correct map, rebuilding the drive and recovering files is impossible.
  2. Encryption Keys Stored in Firmware:
    • If the T2 translator fails, the encryption key stored in the firmware can become inaccessible, locking you out of their data.
  3. Physical and Logical Damage:
    • Physical damage to the drive or logical errors within the translator make recovery complicated.

How Rossmann Repair Group Recovers Your Data

Our expertise in T2 translator recovery is powered by the PC3000 Portable PRO tool and advanced WDC Marvell utilities. Here's how we perform successful recoveries where others fail:

  1. Enhanced T2 Translator Recovery Mode:
    • We use improved methods to address conflicting translation data, creating virtual drives with all possible addressing variants to ensure accuracy.
  2. Module 190 Reconstruction:
    • Our tools rebuild damaged T2 translator modules, so that he drive runs normally during recovery.
  3. Advanced Firmware Handling:
    • For drives with firmware-related issues, we analyze and reload the T2 translator directly into HDD RAM to bypass errors.

Love From Our Customers

Hear from our satisfied customers who trust us for their data recovery needs in Austin. We didn't become the top rated repair shop on Google maps by accident - this was a 15 year effort of providing best-in-class service, with no gimmicks.

5 star ratingI had all of our pictures backed up twice, except for 2017 and 2018. As I was uploading originals to the cloud, my drive died. And there went 2 years, four daughters' middle school and high school memories, and my heart was broken. Two separate repair shops looked at our drive....one of which likely also damaged it further....to no avail. Rossman was recommended by our local guy after he said it was not something he could do. Steve came through. It took time, and patience, and I fully expected for him to give up, but he didn't. He finally fixed it, did it at a price that was way too reasonable, and I now have our memories back. I would unequivocally recommend Rossman. They were honest, fair, and hardworking to the end.

Very friendly, thorough, easy to get in touch with, and respond quickly in addition to fantastic work. I ended up spilling some water on my Macbook Pro that wasn't even a year old at the worst time possible (when I needed my laptop and the things on it most). I went to Apple and they quoted me $1400 and an additional 500$ for data recovery regardless of whether or not it was needed. Naturally, my things don't even get damaged in the same way other laptops do and my logic board was done for. Louis took a quick look at it the day I brought it in and said that the hard drive doesn't seem to be affected (something apple wanted to charge me $500 for). They kept in contact with me every step of the way. They got me a great price to replace the board and trackpad for half of what Apple wanted. Thank you, Louis and Steve. I hope I don't have to be the one to bring anything else to you guys, but if I do, I know where to go. Will definitely refer people. I'm also really enjoying the YouTube channel. Thanks again!

5 star ratingI haven't really had great experiences with the Apple store Genius Bar, even with AppleCare. Usually they just replace my device with a refurbished one and wipe my data. I've been watching these guys on YouTube for a couple of years so I felt like they knew what they were doing and honestly were leagues beyond most Apple repair places. They were able to fix a logic board power issue, they did it in three days, even over a holiday weekend, and they did it for less than the estimate quoted, and the machine is like new - and all of my data is intact, something the Apple store can't promise. I don't honestly understand why anyone would bother going anywhere else for a MacBook Pro repair. These guys 100% are some of the best.

5 star ratingTure Life Savers. TLDR; Don't waste your time with other repair services. Do yourself a favor and just take your machine to Rossmann Repair. You won't regret it. *Full Disclosure* - My repair was completed at the NY store, right before the cut-off for NY repairs (Dec 22). So this review will be for my experience at the old shop. However, Louis recently posted a Youtube video stating that most of the NY team has moved to Texas with him so, rest assured - you will get the same quality service. I've been following Louis and Rossmann Repair on Youtube for probably 3+ years so when my 27" iMac crashed, I knew exactly where to take it. I called Apple support first, just to check to see if they could do anything for me - but as expected - they were useless, and told me it would be better to buy a new machine since my computer was purchased in 2015 and was out of the supported repair window (of course they would). They recommended a few 3rd Party "Apple-Endorsed" repair shops in NYC that MIGHT be able to help me, but since the issue sounded complicated - they gave me a pretty bleak prediction. I preceded to call around to the 3 shops Apple recommended just to be thorough; 1 wouldn't take my machine, another one required a $150 down payment just to drop my machine off, and the other was closed. The one shop that did say they would take my machine was very short over the phone and provided ZERO assurance that they would be to fix the problems after explaining the issues - also note, I am fairly computer/tech literate and explained the issues very thoroughly - and yet, they still provided no indication of being able to help beyond: "Yeah well, bring it in and we'll let you know." That's when I knew: Louis - with his outlook for consumers - and Rossmann repair, was the only route to take. I called Rossmann the second I got off the phone with the other quack repair shops and within 5 Minutes of talking, they were concise, confident, and thorough with the steps and timeline required to fix my machine and retrieve my data; It was a no-brainer. Truly a night-and-day experience. I brought my iMac the next day. One week after I brought my machine, they followed up with a call confirming the issue (per the diagnosis) and asked me how I wanted to proceed - outlining costs, time frames, and our next check-in. A week later they told me they successfully retrieved my data (from the failing HD in my machine) and asked if I wanted to resume with the repair to regain full functionality of my machine or if the data retrieval was enough - BEFORE ANY CHARGES OR ADDITIONAL PROCEDURES; of course, I consented. One week following that, my machine was fully fixed, and an external hard drive containing 15 years worth of data, memories, and work was waiting for me to pick up. And here I am, typing this review on it now - it works flawlessly. No bullshit, no hassle, and EXTREMELY reasonably priced for the amount of work and time spent on my machine. Hopefully, I never have to send another machine to Rossmann repair but, if I need to, you'll be my go-to 100% of the time. Louis, my deepest thank you for all that you do; for your customers, for the community, and in the fight for the right to repair. And to the team at Rossmann, thank you for being patient, thorough, and supportive for when people's lives crash because of the technology we are all now beholden to. And a special thanks to Orhan (the main tech I was in contact with) - you're a lifesaver, thank you. All the best to Rossmann and their move to Austin. Texas, you got yourselves a good one.

Hard drive came back perfectly. I think it took a bit long for Rossman group to get the motherboard, but that may be partially my fault due to buying a board and then realizing it was incompatible. Everything was excellent, only complaint was that I had to scratch off a sticker, but it's literally nothing to worry about. Still kinda wondering if the store is an advertisement for the youtube channel or if the youtube channel is an advertisement for the store. Either way 5/5

5 star ratingGO HERE, no scams & good advice (Spoke with Kevin)! Had an issue with my hard drive, went to a place called Mikes Repair Shop in Chelsea, they were trying to charge me way more. Got a second option at Rossmann, come to find out that the issue was as simple as getting a different cord. Saved me $170 which was what Mikes Repair place was trying to charge + 2-3 day process to get it fixed. Anyways recommend coming to Rossmann 100%!

5 star ratingROSSMANN GROUP SAVED MY 2010 MACBOOK PRO! My 2010 MacBook Pro was on it's last leg. It had gotten to a point where it would shut down & restart 3 times within 10 mins of use. I had replaced the memory & upgraded my hard drive, neither of which fixed the incessant kernel panics (shutdown-restarts). In my desperation to save my really old computer, I searched the internet for weeks & eventually found Rossmann on YouTube. I watched a lot of their videos & decided to ship my computer to them in hopes that they could fix it by replacing the crap capacitor*. I shipped my MacBook out to Rossmann on a Monday & it arrived in their NYC shop two days later. Rossmann immediately fixed it upon arrival (same day!) & invoiced me. I didn't check my email until Thursday, which is when I paid their invoice & they shipped the computer back out to me. I received my MacBook that following Monday, but had I checked my email on Wednesday, I would have received it on Saturday, just 5 days after shipping it out for repair. The turnaround was incredibly fast & my computer has been running like new with daily use since I got it back a few weeks ago. I'm so thankful I found Rossmann Group's informative YouTube videos about MacBook Pro's kernel panics. The repair was less than 1/10 what a new MacBook Pro would have cost, literally saving me well over $2,000. I'll never take my MacBook to Apple or another shop for repair again, local or not. We are forever Rossmann customers! *NOTE: Even though it's a very affordable & quick repair, the MacBook capacitor issue isn't well-known or something that Apple advertises. Our local computer repair shops weren't even aware of it! I was basically told by 2 local shops that my MacBook wasn't repairable & I needed to get a new computer. Meanwhile, Rossmann fixed it in a matter of minutes! If you're up in the air on whether or not shipping your computer is worth it, I'm here to tell you that it is 100% worth shipping to Rossmann. They're honest (sometimes brutally so) & reliable. If your computer can't be fixed, they'll simply tell you so & you can pay the cost of shipping to have it shipped back to you.

5 star ratingI have a 2021 MacBook Pro that just died. Flatlined. Took it to Apple Store in Plano, TX and Oklahoma City, OK. They both said system has an internal short and for $848, they could repair it. Problem is, I still had data on it that I needed. Apple said no chance on preserving any data because logic board and SSD are encrypted and it's an M1 laptop. They were going to replace logic board which would wipe everything on SSD. Only 16 months of life and this "incredible" Apple product died. No damage, moisture, cracks, or scuffs and it died. Apple Geniuses said probably a defective board but since they're Apple, I'll still have to pay for repair and since there's no activity, $0 for trade in. Have you heard about our "pay for cloud storage??????" Apple quality has dropped significantly. Steve Jobs must be rolling over in shame and disgust. Fortunately there is the Rossmann Repair Group. Shipped it to their Austin, TX facility. They were constantly communicating with me about the status of my MacBook Pro. Let me tell you who fixed my MacBook Pro M1 with SSD. NOT Apple. NOT some of these Data Recovery companies that wanted a $1000.00 non-refundable just to " try and do our best". The ROSSMANN REPAIR GROUP fixed it. I don't mean just repaired the encrypted logic board so that my MacBook is operational again, I mean the Rossmann Repair Group also SAVED ALL MY DATA on my SSD. EVERYTHING is intact. Data, preferences, EVERYTHING! ALL FOR LESS THAN APPLE wanted. That's right. Less money and they preserved everything while fixing what Apple shoddily put out into the market but wouldn't acknowledge as being DEFECTIVE. Whatever your needs for tech repair, Rossmann Repair Group. They truly have you covered. Their actions and results are what really matters when it comes your devices and data. Since OU is an Apple school, I had to buy another MacBook Pro for exams. When school is over, I'm tossing Apple into the gutter where it truly belongs. At least now I have ALL of my data to take with me thanks to the Rossmann Repair Group. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Just to clarify. I bought another MacBook Pro M3Pro BEFORE I even heard of Rossmann Repair Group. I actually bought it while at OKC Apple Store being told for the 2nd time that all is lost. Wish I hadn't because Rossmann Repair Group had it for less than a week and fixed Everything. Law school is unforgiving though and Finals are a real mother.

5 star ratingThese guys are LEGIT! Don't waste your time with anyone else. I had water damage in a newer iphone and had YEARS of pics which were not backed up. I was given a cost and time estimate reflective of what was on their website. Their service exceeded the high-points of both estimates. It was definitely not a drop-in the bucket cost, but worth the service. I was notified 24 hours later that my data recovery was complete. Unfortunately, my phone was not repairable but that didn't matter much to me anyway. Great service with these guys and glad to find them locally as well. If you're not in NYC- they will coordinate with you.

5 star ratingI stumbled on my daughter's 2012 MacBook Pro that she had been told (years ago) was beyond repair. I powered it up and a little research led me to guess that the hard drive was dead or not being seen. So I sent a note with that assumption to Rossman Repair Group. They said it could be the hard drive or it could be the drive cable which is a known issue with this model - $100 to repair if that's what it is. I gambled and paid $13 to ship it. For retail customers, Rossman will diagnose, outline the problem, and provide an estimate for free. They confirmed it was the cable and they needed the OS password to further test the operating system to make sure that it boots (loads to your desktop). I did not have the password so I asked if they could use the password reset? They replied "We wouldn't be able to reset the password, but we can wipe it and reinstall a new OS with a new password if you'd like. The hard drive cable is indeed bad on this device, with a new cable the hard drive does show up." I got it back (free return shipping), since the hard drive now shows up I was able to reset the PW and it looks to be running perfectly! Total repair cost $113.

Visited old location in February 2020. I thought I had a complicated issue with an iPhone, and a need to move gigs of data from it. It turned out I was wrong. The friendly staff at Rossman Repair Group were understanding and kind in their handling of my problem, which had a very simple solution Never once was I lead towards spending unnecessary money on data recovery. Different approaches to my need were presented and explained, all with a patient demeanor and an energizing confidence. I deeply appreciate the staff at Rossman. I fully expected (and was willing) to spend a chunk of money at their business, but was gently guided to a solution that saved me hard earned money, and helped me save my data. Honest, top notch service!

5 star ratingWhen all others failed, Rossmann did not!!! In January of this year a snow storm knocked out the power at my house and a very important external hard drive of mine was affected. My computer could tell that there was a drive connected but would not read it. All it was doing was making a clicking noise. I made an appointment to a chain electronics and appliance store. They took one look at it, plugged it in, and then handed it back to me telling me that there was nothing to be done to fix it. I made another appointment, this time for a local computer repair company. They had my drive for two weeks but with no luck. They then sent the drive off to a higher repair company that they work with. This company attempted to work on my hard drive for about a month. Eventually, after replacing parts and trying all that they could, they returned it to me, stating that it was lost and could not be recovered. I had given up on the drive. This drive contained all of my photography business back to 2016. Haven't lost so much, I was about to shut down my small business. My wife posted a message to some friends asking if anyone could recommend anything for me. Someone suggested Rossmann. I reached out to them and sent my drive in, not expecting anything but more disappointment. The crew of Rossmann were constantly in touch with me letting me know what was going on with my drive. After some time, they called me to tell me that it would be another month or so because they had to fix whatever the prior company had tried to do. My drive was with them for a few months that I had actually forgotten about it. One rough day at work and just getting home, I received a call from a repair company that was in my phone contacts. I figured it was some construction company wanting to offer me some home remodeling deal. When the guy on the other end told me that they had recovered my hard drive it had completely made my day so much better. I had written it off as a complete loss and Rossmann had saved it all. They set up a time with me to get online and remote connect with them to be able to see my drive in their system and review my files. I was very happy with what I was seeing. They mailed my drive back to me and even contacted me shortly after the delivery date to ensure I got the drive and was happy with it. I couldn't be more pleased. All that was lost was not actually gone and what three other tech companies could not do, Rossmann did!

These guys deserve TEN stars. My mother's Mac Air died on a vacation to NYC. Well, we thought it died. Her bag was lost at JFK and the charger was packed (dumb, yes, but there was a major snowstorm and she slept not at all waiting to find out whether or not her flight was canceled). She had important files not backed up. Yes, dumb. But she's 78 and a lawyer 52 years. A lawyer with secretaries who used to do all that stuff. And she is not computer-savvy beyond the bare minimum needed to email and compose documents. She bought a charger at UES Apple (the one on Madison in the 70s). The computer would not charge above 1%. My friend in IT recommended this place. He says it is the ONLY place other than Apple he will allow to touch his many devices, as an Apple consumer since the 1980s. I called Rossman at noon, from the March For Our Lives, and they said they would take a look at it. But before that, I emailed. Sure enough, there was an email back to my mother (she didn't see it). I told them my friend thought the port was corroded and that might be why it would not (the light) turn green or orange. So I trek back to the UES from the UWS to retrieve the computer. Trains a mess. Two hours later I arrived at Rossman and found three others waiting in the tiny store. It's not that small but typical for the area, narrow storefront and a deep space with workspace in the rear. The man took the computer and then charged with his own charger. Voila! All that stress and it turns out the computer is FINE but that Apple sold us a defective charger. Mom never tested it in the store, having no reason to believe Apple would sell a lemon. (Yuk yuk.) The man (whose name I wish I had asked for as we hung out over an hour) transferred her hard drive onto a little metal thing for 40 bucks. Also, Mom's machine is in very good shape, though she needs a new battery at some point. He does not recommend that she buys a new Air, which she was prepared to do. Otherwise, her device is healthy. Quite remarkable for a 2012 that gets heavy usage. Even at work, she uses her Air not a desktop at the firm. We then talked a lot about old vs new Airs and MacBook Pros. My Pro is from 2015, November. He says NEVER to get rid of this device, just to fix it when it gets old, and that the new MacBook Pros suck. He even expects a class action suit to arise as a result of the hybrid of solid state and movable parts. The new Airs are also not great. If they die and you haven't backed anything up, you are screwed. There is NO WAY to retrieve files without making the machine functional. That's because there is no removable hard drive. He's not impressed with the new products and says the best Pro eve made is the one I own (a gift from a dear friend who knew my 2011 MacBook Pro was on last legs). I am a customer for life and when my 2015 Pro begins to age, I'm taking it here. They also sell refurbished Mac Air/Pro and I would trust anything they had fixed and deemed fit to sell. Everyone is so nice. A lot of people came in and the Saturday hours were 12 to 4. A frazzled young woman came in at 4:10 pm and asked if they were closed. "Yes and no," my repairman told her. I love this place and encourage all Apple people to patronize them. The juice place down the street is quite good (a few doors down) and the prices lower than Juice Press and the like (except for the Acai bowls). But they don't have real milk. Just that soy/almond garbage. It's not far from Veselka and the Immigrant Bar. And St. Marks. THANK YOU, ROSSMAN!
