WD My Passport & Encrypted External Hard Drive Data Recovery; T2 Translator Specialists

At Rossmann Repair Group, we are proud to offer advanced T2 translator recovery services for Western Digital (WD) drives, particularly those with encrypted storage. Using the latest PC3000 tools, we recover data from devices that other recovery labs claim aren't recoverable.

Why Rossmann Repair?

What Types of Products Benefit from T2 Translator Recovery?

  1. External Hard Drives:

    • Popular models like WD My Passport and WD Elements often use T2 encryption translators to protect user data.
  2. Encrypted Portable Drives:

    • WD drives with hardware encryption, such as WD My Passport Ultra and similar models, rely on T2 translators to secure files.
  3. NAS Devices with WD Drives:

    • Network-attached storage (NAS) systems that use WD drives with encryption also rely on T2 translator technology. Typical users include:
      • Small business owners running Synology or QNAP NAS systems for backups.
      • Home users who store digital libraries, including music, movies, and photos.

Challenges of Recovering Data from WD Drives with T2 Translators

T2 translators enable advanced encryption but create big roadblocks for data recovery:

  1. Conflicting Translation Data:
    • Encrypted drives often contain multiple versions of translation data. Without the correct map, rebuilding the drive and recovering files is impossible.
  2. Encryption Keys Stored in Firmware:
    • If the T2 translator fails, the encryption key stored in the firmware can become inaccessible, locking you out of their data.
  3. Physical and Logical Damage:
    • Physical damage to the drive or logical errors within the translator make recovery complicated.

How Rossmann Repair Group Recovers Your Data

Our expertise in T2 translator recovery is powered by the PC3000 Portable PRO tool and advanced WDC Marvell utilities. Here's how we perform successful recoveries where others fail:

  1. Enhanced T2 Translator Recovery Mode:
    • We use improved methods to address conflicting translation data, creating virtual drives with all possible addressing variants to ensure accuracy.
  2. Module 190 Reconstruction:
    • Our tools rebuild damaged T2 translator modules, so that he drive runs normally during recovery.
  3. Advanced Firmware Handling:
    • For drives with firmware-related issues, we analyze and reload the T2 translator directly into HDD RAM to bypass errors.

5 star ratingI have a 2016 15" MacBook Pro with touch bar, which crashed randomly and wouldn't restart. I tried a bunch of things over next couple of days but no dice. Figured it was dead.Took it to Apple Store (W 14th St). Their Genius took it apart in a back room and told me the logic board is dead and quoted $678 to fix it, with loss of all data.I went to Rossmann nearby to ask about data recovery (having researched various options and finding lots of recommendations for this place). The guy at the front desk took it apart in front of me and found the issue in 10 seconds. A small screw had become dislodged and was wedged between two components on the board. Worked fine after removing that.No cost (I gave the guy a tip).Amazing.Added bonus: my faith in humanity is renewed. (My faith in Apple is much reduced)Can't recommend this place enough.

5 star ratingFor the sake of objectivity, my rating ONLY reflects the quality of the work as requested, however, be warned that the customer experience is a different story.I brought in an iPhone Pro Max that wouldn't power on. A common problem with a simple enough fix. This phone has sentimental value to me due to it being one of the first produced. It was a test unit used by Tim Cook himself and still carried his personal collection of over 250GB of traumatizingly nasty adult videos. The Apple Repair center REFUSED to even attempt a repair and offered only a replacement after much debating. OUT OF THE QUESTION, for obvious reasons. I'm well aware of the quality of Apple's products and know for a fact that dropping it into an industrial shredder is not enough to cause irreparable damage, as they claimed.Ordinarily, I would never bring an Apple product anywhere but an authorized repair center. I am strongly opposed to allowing untrained personnel to risk their lives fumbling around with the internals of such a device, and aside from that, they're unlikely to even be capable of comprehending the intricacies of the design. Without highly specialized tools and training, these amateurs pose a significant danger to not only themselves, but those around them, and to some extent, society as a whole. But I had to make a rare exception.Rossman repair group came recommended by some of the less scrupulous Apple fans I know, so that's where I went.Upon entry, as any discerning iPhone owner would, I looked around for the tell-tale signs of forced labor, underage workers, and a volatile undercurrent of resentment among the employees. Those are the marks of a shop owner that truly understands Apple's methods. Disappointingly, I found none. When they finally noticed my arrival, the desk worker pointed to my companions and said "we don't serve their kind here!" When I requested clarification, he replied "You can come in, but your droids will have to wait outside." I found this odd and somewhat discriminatory, and still to this day don't know how he was able to tell they were Android users. While I try to be tolerant and open minded, they are indeed lesser forms of life so I complied and sent them outside.I described my predicament and deposited the fragments of my phone on the desk. He took it to the back where his co-workers gathered and seemed to discuss it at length.I was elated when one of the staff informed me that they could fix it. I thanked Saint Eugene, patron Saint of tradesmanship and customer satisfaction for guiding me here.I watched as they initiated some sort of summoning ritual. They placed the remains of the phone in the center of a circle. Around the perimeter, a camera, a microphone, a Tesla Enthusiast newsletter, and one gallon of Amtech flux were placed, while members of the staff chanted incantations that seemed to imply that a certain person's manhood or lack thereof was dependent on their ability to complete the repair. It was then he appeared, as if he had been present the whole time. Lewis Rosmann himself approached my phone. Lifting the bottle of flux, he began pouring it on the fragmented components. Only the whites of his eyes were visible as they rolled back in his head. He began speaking in tongues as the flux continued to pour from the bottle, now running off the edge of the table. The smell of brimstone overwhelmed me as heat seemingly fueled by Hell fire issued forth from the nozzle of his Atten hot air rework station in his other hand. The flux had by then covered the entire shop floor as an impossible amount still poured from the container. The Mark of the Beast(SAMSUNG) appeared on his forehead. As he began cursing the name of Paul Daniels, the solder started to reflow and the pieces of the phone drew back together and became one.The shop turned silent, we were at that point ankle deep in flux. For a single instant, I saw a black cat, seemingly above it all, observing, as if he alone made the rules that dictate causality, the beginning and the end. Then..."Fan Spin!" There was a blinding flash as the phone's backlight suddenly illuminated. The cat was gone, flux was everywhere. As I regained my wits I asked him to repeat himself."Fan spin," Rosman said as he returned the iPhone, "that's all that matters."I examined the phone, and the fan was indeed spinning, very impressive considering that iPhones don't have fans.I confirmed the device was fully functional and that no data was lost, and asked how much I owed."$138 and your first born," he replied, which I gladly agreed to, because if you've ever gotten a quote from Apple you'd know that's quite a bargain! So, despite using unofficial, even unothodox tools and techniques, they were able to help me out, and perhaps they can help you too.

Great experience. These guys know what they are doing and are so honest, it is almost scary. I sent them a hard drive for data recovery and was informed that a recovery might be possible, but was highly unlikely. I watched one of their videos on YouTube and it made perfect sense why. Everyone else wanted to charge me $1300, whether or not they could recover the data. Louis, thank you for what you do, what you represent, and who you are.

They were very responsive, and very flexible. They put a new motherboard in my computer and then learned that the screen was still bad. So they didn't charge me and sent me my hard drive too. I was really impressed

Anyone with a 1 star review is absolutely ridiculous and I will personally report every 1 star review that has absolutely no basis for being 1 star worthy. Not only did I choose this company because I've been watching Rossman the last 12 years but because I know the work I need done is the work they can do on any typical weekday afternoon in just under an hour. My data was easily recovered. And the service was impeccable. Thank you good sir 🫡

I sent my MacBook Pro in for an SSD replacement. Work was done in 2 business days and shipping was very fast. As a technician myself I only trust board level repair or new Mac repair to Rossman and his team. Used to watch his YouTube videos many years ago. Great to see progress!

These guys deserve TEN stars. My mother's Mac Air died on a vacation to NYC. Well, we thought it died. Her bag was lost at JFK and the charger was packed (dumb, yes, but there was a major snowstorm and she slept not at all waiting to find out whether or not her flight was canceled). She had important files not backed up. Yes, dumb. But she's 78 and a lawyer 52 years. A lawyer with secretaries who used to do all that stuff. And she is not computer-savvy beyond the bare minimum needed to email and compose documents. She bought a charger at UES Apple (the one on Madison in the 70s). The computer would not charge above 1%. My friend in IT recommended this place. He says it is the ONLY place other than Apple he will allow to touch his many devices, as an Apple consumer since the 1980s. I called Rossman at noon, from the March For Our Lives, and they said they would take a look at it. But before that, I emailed. Sure enough, there was an email back to my mother (she didn't see it). I told them my friend thought the port was corroded and that might be why it would not (the light) turn green or orange. So I trek back to the UES from the UWS to retrieve the computer. Trains a mess. Two hours later I arrived at Rossman and found three others waiting in the tiny store. It's not that small but typical for the area, narrow storefront and a deep space with workspace in the rear. The man took the computer and then charged with his own charger. Voila! All that stress and it turns out the computer is FINE but that Apple sold us a defective charger. Mom never tested it in the store, having no reason to believe Apple would sell a lemon. (Yuk yuk.) The man (whose name I wish I had asked for as we hung out over an hour) transferred her hard drive onto a little metal thing for 40 bucks. Also, Mom's machine is in very good shape, though she needs a new battery at some point. He does not recommend that she buys a new Air, which she was prepared to do. Otherwise, her device is healthy. Quite remarkable for a 2012 that gets heavy usage. Even at work, she uses her Air not a desktop at the firm. We then talked a lot about old vs new Airs and MacBook Pros. My Pro is from 2015, November. He says NEVER to get rid of this device, just to fix it when it gets old, and that the new MacBook Pros suck. He even expects a class action suit to arise as a result of the hybrid of solid state and movable parts. The new Airs are also not great. If they die and you haven't backed anything up, you are screwed. There is NO WAY to retrieve files without making the machine functional. That's because there is no removable hard drive. He's not impressed with the new products and says the best Pro eve made is the one I own (a gift from a dear friend who knew my 2011 MacBook Pro was on last legs). I am a customer for life and when my 2015 Pro begins to age, I'm taking it here. They also sell refurbished Mac Air/Pro and I would trust anything they had fixed and deemed fit to sell. Everyone is so nice. A lot of people came in and the Saturday hours were 12 to 4. A frazzled young woman came in at 4:10 pm and asked if they were closed. "Yes and no," my repairman told her. I love this place and encourage all Apple people to patronize them. The juice place down the street is quite good (a few doors down) and the prices lower than Juice Press and the like (except for the Acai bowls). But they don't have real milk. Just that soy/almond garbage. It's not far from Veselka and the Immigrant Bar. And St. Marks. THANK YOU, ROSSMAN!

World-class Mac repair service. If you want it done right and fast, this is the shop. Rossmann Repair had my damaged Macbook Pro screen replaced and ready for pick up less than six hours after drop off. Prior to that, I had spilled a cup of tea on another laptop- they successfully retrieved all data. Their quiet, friendly efficiency is very much appreciated pandemic or not. Great guys and gals.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Rossmann Repair Group in NYC one day almost two years ago as friends of mine needed an evaluation of a broken Macbook Pro, a bad hard drive and possible data transfer. Louis Rossmann greeted us immediately and was very friendly and patient. He told us exactly what the problem was and said that the Macbook Pro was beyond repair due to bad GPU connections. In fact he saw this as soon as he turned it on, he could detect very faint lines on the screen which indicated this issue. He was very honest about this, he said that some places would get it to work for a while by heating it up and charging a few hundred dollars, but that the repair would not last long and it would certainly fail again. My friend asked him if he could transfer the data from the Macbook to a Mac Mini so it would work like the Macbook. He said he could and it would take a couple of days. We returned a few days later to pick everything up. The cost was very reasonable and my friends were very satisfied with the service. He gave the bad HD back to us, said it would require sending to a recovery center. Just honest. No ripoffs. In this tech repair industry, dishonesty is very common since tech people know the average person has no clue about any of this technology and there is almost no chance they would know if they are being fooled or how much the repair is really worth. I know this well since I also do computer and electronics repair and support myself and I know how easy it would be to fool customers left and right! I don't do this and I highly appreciate other tech experts who aren't tempted to profit from people's trust and innocence! So in summary, if you don't want to get ripped of and lied to, and are looking for a highly competent reliable technician, make sure you go here with your Mac equipment. If you like, you can stop by an Apple Genius bar first for a good laugh, while they give you the wrong diagnosis, quote you an insanely high repair price, and try to convince you to buy a whole new unit. Finally, if you want to be amazed, look for Louis Rossmann on YouTube and watch some of his videos where he shows exactly how he repairs the "unrepairable" and inspires many others to do their own repairs, start their own repair businesses and with his tireless entrepreneurial positive attitude even motivates disillusioned young students to not give up on school and go to college! (In fact one student said he was about to give up on education but after watching Louis on YouTube he made the decision to enter Med school! Now that's remarkable!) Louis is such a great guy, that in some cases where the issue is very minor, like a bad cable, he even does the repair for no charge! Try to find anybody who is willing to do anything for no charge these days! (The Genius bar would certainly tell you that your unit has been water damaged, when it wasn't, (maybe was in a humid room which would turn the water indicators red!) and quote you $1000 for a repair that would cost them $7 for the cable) Louis Rossmann is a hero, one of those rare individuals who make positive contributions to individuals and society every single day. I am pretty sure that anybody who gives him a bad review probably either is part of Apple, or considers Apple to be some kind of religious deity.

5 star ratingThey are the best, they fixed my computer, which I thought it was a lost case! I spilled coffee on my MacBook Pro, it was a lot of coffee! I took it to an apple approved repair shop and they told me that it was going to cost me more than a new computer, and that I should consider it a total loss. At this point I had no warranty, I did not buy a protection plan, and the computer was only 1 year old. At least I needed to recover my data, and this apple approved place told me it was going to be $2,100. I decided to ship my laptop to the Rossmann Repair Group, and they did an amazing job communicating with me about any updates. They estimated to repair it for $700, and then told me it was only going to cost me $425. I was very happy. They shipped it back for free, and now I have my computer working "almost perfectly" (some keys are a little sticky, and the mouse pad a little sensible), but I have all my data, which I immediately saved into an external hard drive. I highly recommend them.

Visited old location in February 2020. I thought I had a complicated issue with an iPhone, and a need to move gigs of data from it. It turned out I was wrong. The friendly staff at Rossman Repair Group were understanding and kind in their handling of my problem, which had a very simple solution Never once was I lead towards spending unnecessary money on data recovery. Different approaches to my need were presented and explained, all with a patient demeanor and an energizing confidence. I deeply appreciate the staff at Rossman. I fully expected (and was willing) to spend a chunk of money at their business, but was gently guided to a solution that saved me hard earned money, and helped me save my data. Honest, top notch service!
