Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 10:00 AM Same $400,000-$2 million surveillance contract. This time, company salespeople can speak, but you can't.
City Council withdrew the item less than 24 hours before the August 28th hearing. Over 70 of you showed up anyway. You cleaned up the steps! You were polite & professional & you got ignored.
Now the only mention of liveview to speak are Kevin Rabinowitz & Khoja Rahimi - both work for LiveView Technologies. They signed up 21 days in advance using a form most of you probably didn't realize is on their site. The cameras aren't on the agenda, so you can't sign up to speak about them directly. They won their procedural game.
OUTSIDE:
show up. Bring a sign. speak to people who show up - or don't! Simply being present is speech in & of itself. You are one of many who are against
INSIDE:
Go to: https://cityofaustin.formstack.com/forms/austin_city_council_speaker_signup
Pick ANY agenda item. Doesn't matter which one. You can only speak if you have signed up, & must pick an agenda item.
Show up dressed professionally - this is important
When called, speak about what matters to you. Feel free to say "that item is interesting but I'd like to discuss the AI surveillance contract I wasn't able to discuss last time" - & say your peace.
Remember: You already signed up to speak August 28th. They canceled on you with no notice. You have every right to make your voice heard.
Austin City Hall 301 W. Second Street, Austin, TX 78701
Thursday, September 25, 2025 - I'll be there at 9 AM
Meeting starts at 10 AM
Same parking as before, City Hall Garage at 601 W 2nd or Republic Square at 422 Guadalupe
Dress like you mean business - Nice shirt, decent shoes, clean appearance
Be polite, courteous, professional - No yelling, no scenes, no trespassing, NO BULLSHIT BEHAVIOR.
If asked to leave once you have spoken, leave immediately.
Don't lower your standards because they lowered theirs
LiveView's website says their cameras enable "facial recognition." Their marketing guy told me they don't do facial recognition. Their best example of "crime prevention" was their camera watching kids build a bomb and put it in a garbage can. The camera did nothing.
If we can't defeat AI surveillance here, we will lose everywhere else.
Austin wasted $1.2 million on Flock & got 165 arrests from 113 million scans
That's $7,300 per arrest
Denver, San Marcos, Oak Park all said NO
They weren't going to let you speak about cameras anyway. At least this way you get to try.
Speaking at a public meeting you signed up for is 100% legal. Yes. Leave when asked. Be polite. Don't trespass.
Because letting them spend $2 million without opposition means they'll do it again & again, until there's a camera on every corner & you wonder how we got here.
Sign up anyway and select remote testimony. Do it from your lunch break.
So did showing up August 28th. But 70+ people came anyway. They saw us. The media saw us.
They played games with procedure to silence you, yet the company's salespeople have an open forum. They are not even Austn taxpayers; from Houston & Chicago. You can accept that, or you can show up Thursday. It's your choice.
See you at 9 AM September 25th outside City Hall! (meeting begins at 10, camera talk at 12, i will be there at 9).
