At Rossmann Repair Group, we provide advanced, lab-level data recovery services for Solid State drives. With the cutting-edge PC3000 Portable PRO tool & highly trained technicians, we can recover damaged SSDs where others have failed.

What is SSD Data Recovery?

Solid State Drives (SSDs) are much more advanced than spinning hard drives, and offer increased reliability in many cases. However, they're not immune to data loss. SSD data recovery involves recovering  inaccessible or lost data from SSDs due to logical errors, physical damage, firmware corruption, or other failures.

When your SSD fails and you can't access your important files anymore, that's where data recovery comes in. It's the tech equivalent of a rescue mission, specialists use special tools and techniques to dig into your broken drive and try to pull out whatever data they can save.

Common causes of SSD data loss

  • Physical Damage: Impact, water/liquid exposure, or extreme temperatures can damage SSD components.
  • Firmware Corruption: Bugs or glitches in the drive’s firmware can lead to data inaccessibility. When this happens, your drive might not be able to find or access your files, even though they're still technically there.
  • Logical Errors: File system corruption, accidental deletion, or formatting issues.
  • Electrical Failures: Power surges can damage the drive’s internal circuitry.
  • Wear and Tear: NAND flash memory cells have limited write cycles, leading to eventual degradation. SSDs wear out gradually because each storage cell can only be written to a limited number of times. Think of it like a pencil eraser: it works great at first, but eventually wears down from use. Most SSDs last years before this becomes an issue, but it's inevitable.

Rossmann's expertise & experience

With SSD data recovery, experience is the #1 factor that influences the success rate of any data recovery process. At Rossmann Repair, our technicians are well-versed in the intricacies of SSD technology, have years of hands-on experience dealing with a wide array of SSD failures, and tens of thousands of dollars of paid training. We've seen pretty much every way an SSD can fail, from the common stuff to the really weird cases that would stump most shops. This knowledge lets us diagnose issues accurately & make sure we get the job done the right way the first time.

What makes SSD data recovery difficult

SSDs present unique challenges due to their architecture and data management methods. Unlike traditional hard drives, SSDs use NAND flash memory and advanced controllers that manage data through complex & confusing algorithms. This can make data recovery more challenging, especially when dealing with:

  • Encrypted Drives: Many SSDs come with built-in encryption, which makes recovery more difficult.
  • Firmware Failures: A corrupted firmware can make an SSD inaccessible, & requires specialized tools to repair.
  • Logical Failures: Issues such as partition corruption or incorrect drive size (e.g., showing as "8MB") require expert intervention.

Frequently Asked Questions

Love From Our Customers

Hear from our satisfied customers who trust us for their data recovery needs in Austin. We didn't become the top rated repair shop on Google maps by accident - this was a 15 year effort of providing best-in-class service, with no gimmicks.

My 2017 Macbook Pro's hard drive got bricked after updating to Apple's Catalina OS (no hard drive was detected). *Yes, Apple's software update physically corrupted my hard drive. I went to my local Apple store and was quoted over $800 to get my Macbook in working order, despite the issue happening because of a known Apple bug. I've been watching Louis's videos on YouTube for some time and decided to ship my Macbook from Hawaii to his shop in New York. His team was very straight forward and repaired my laptop at a fraction of the cost (considering new hard drive + installation)! I can't thank Louis and his team enough! Much mahalo! #supportrighttorepair

I wasn't able to retrieve files off an external hard drive and the first estimate was $350 to $2500 (they said it had to go back to the manufacturer). Rossman was referred baby a friend and I was able to retrieve all my information. It was pricey (not $2,500!!) but worth it. I was very happy with the service.

Great experience using Rossmann Repair Group to fix my 2015 Macbook Air. It randomly stopped working one evening, despite being in like new condition with minimal use. I was planning to go to the Apple Store and see what they could do, but as I kept googling potential issues I came across a video from Rossmann Repair Group and read all the amazing comments and reviews. With my older Macbook, I had much success at a similar repair shop in a different state, saving me a lot of money and fixing my computer without losing data so I gave this a shot. They respond very promptly and quickly and even provided suggestions of what the possible problems could be before I event sent them my computer. Once It was shipped to them, the diagnosis was done quickly, along with the repairs. I was shocked it was such a 'simple' fix and now I have my computer back working perfectly....with all my data. Highly highly recommend. If I have issues in the future I will be using them again. Thank you so much!

I was a big fan of Rossmann. I have been watching him on YouTube for years. Naturally, when I was having a hardware problem with my Framework Laptop, I was so excited to be able to use the business owned by one of my heroes. I emailed them in advance since I know they focus on Apple Product repair. They emailed me warning it may take several weeks. I thought to myself. I can wait as long as it takes, I just want my issue resolved so I shipped it out. The issue was after a spill on the charge port the machine would periodically stop charging and need the power cable re-seated. I shipped it out and waited. I even pre-approved like 300 dollars for repairs. I was ready to pay the price for quality work. Finally, they call me to tell me they cannot fix it. They said they observed the issue but saw no signs of water damage and found no shorts on the board and said all they could do was a data backup. I said why would I pay for a data backup of a working drive? They said good point. I pleaded please maybe if you look at it for longer or have another tech check it out you can figure it out. They refused and shipped it back (at cost to me but I knew that going in). I basically gave up. I figured if the legendary Rossmann can't fix it then nobody can. One day a week later I walked past a repair shop in NYC called iFixit. I walked in and told them my story and they seemed super confident they could fix it and would not charge to take a look. Less than a week later they called and said it was fixed 95 bucks please. I was excited and skeptical. I picked it up and paid. I asked what they had done and all they did was clean the motherboard (like ultrasonic cleaning I think). I was worried. There was no way this would be all that was needed, because no way Rossmann's people missed such an easy fix. Well It's been weeks and I can confirm this was all that was needed. My Framework is now fully functional. I am thrilled but so disappointed. Rossmann Repair Group has been the biggest disappointment for me of the entire year of 2023. I seriously hope that my experience was the exception to the rule and that everyone else is having a better experience. My experience was what I expect from Geek Squad at Best Buy. Now I worked for Geek Squad and its great to send your mum or granny to get a virus cleaned and a basic hard drive data backup, but real repairs its not the place you want to go. I thought Rossmann was... I was wrong. iFixit in NYC was the place to go. Finishing the story: I received a call from Rossmann Repair. Initially I didn't take the call. I figured it was going to be an underhanded attempt to get me to amend the review above. When I got a second call several minutes later I figured I would take the call and see what they were going to say. The gentleman that was speaking said they wanted to talk about the review I had left. They wanted to let me know what happened from their side. I was skeptical but already on the phone and to be fair nobody had been unprofessional in their communications with me so I felt it would be rude not to let the man finish. Ultimately he told me that they dropped the ball and that my review was one of the few bad reviews that was justified. He went over in great detail what had happened from their end and why they believed there was no option for repair. He really wanted to convey that they were sorry they let me down that this truly was an anomaly and I believe him. I will be changing the review from a 1 to a 2 star but will not change the contents only add this ending to the story. While I doubt I will be using Rossmann Repair again I do believe they are a capable and professional shop. Edit: I have since received correspondence from Louis Rossmann himself and I truly believe that I am an edge case and that this shop is an amazing place and I just got very unlucky. Thank you Louis. Keep up all the good work you do.

5 star ratingI had a MacBook Air that died. Thankfully, I had watched a number of Louis Rossmann videos on YouTube and thought that his group would be the people for the job. I shipped my laptop off to Austin, within a few hours of receiving it, I was assigned a number and kept up to date on the progress. The laptop was repaired in about three business days, packed, and returned to me as good as new! Had I sent it to an "authorized" Apple repair center, they would have been required to replace the logic board, resulting in a complete loss of data! Thankfully, they know how to actually repair computers! I didn't have to lose any data ... it was all intact! That's a great win! The repair cost $425, which was actually less than the $464 at an authorized repair shop, to replace the entire logic board. For sure, if I have other issues, right back to Austin it will go! My only knock, and it's a small one is that the communication is not great when replying to the service ticket to ask questions. I'm still giving five stars though because 4.75 won't work!

5 star ratingI have a 2016 15" MacBook Pro with touch bar, which crashed randomly and wouldn't restart. I tried a bunch of things over next couple of days but no dice. Figured it was dead.Took it to Apple Store (W 14th St). Their Genius took it apart in a back room and told me the logic board is dead and quoted $678 to fix it, with loss of all data.I went to Rossmann nearby to ask about data recovery (having researched various options and finding lots of recommendations for this place). The guy at the front desk took it apart in front of me and found the issue in 10 seconds. A small screw had become dislodged and was wedged between two components on the board. Worked fine after removing that.No cost (I gave the guy a tip).Amazing.Added bonus: my faith in humanity is renewed. (My faith in Apple is much reduced)Can't recommend this place enough.

5 star ratingI had an iPhone 8 that was totally dead, wouldn't recognize being plugged into a computer or power outlet. The biggest problem was that it hadn't been backed up in a long time and there 5000+ photos and videos of our kids were potentially lost.I sent it in to RRG and got a call from Kevin (who was the tech who was actually going to be handling my repair). He was great, forthcoming with the plan, and very polite.Bottom line? Got my phone back with all the data still intact (apps, contacts, photos, videos, settings) working 100%, AND got a flash drive with the photos and videos on it.Thanks guys!

My satisfaction with Rossmann Repair Group goes beyond just 5 stars. I had a hard drive die some time ago, but I had no idea where I could send it knowing it would be safe, or there being a chance I'd be ripped off. After watching Louis Rossmann's YouTube channel for over 10 years, and being able to see how the process for data recovery works at your store, I decided to give it a try because I felt good about supporting a business owned by someone who I have listened to for many years. I mailed my drive, and within 3 days, I already had an estimate that I was satisfied with. I went forward with the repair. I got the drive back in just under 2 weeks, which was faster than I expected. Once I received the drive and the data back, I was amazed to see that everything was in place as I left it when the drive died! I was very pleased with the process for recovering the drive from start to finish. I hope I never have the need for another data recovery, but if I do, I know where to go. I am truly thankful for all you have done for me.

5 star ratingMy laptop was ruined from water leakage in my bag and I was so worried that all of my data would be gone. I went to Apple and they said to buy a completely new laptop, which is costly. RRG repaired my laptop in A DAY with a reasonable price and I was so relieved. Weeks later, by laptop is working perfectly. I highly recommend this company for electronic repairs!
