Kevin did a great job recovering data from a 2015 Macbook Pro that went swimming in a lake. He recovered all my clients data with no issues and kept a good line of communication. I cannot recommend working with these guys enough. A few weeks back, my 2018 Mac randomly crashed while traveling. I visited the Apple Store who offered a misdiagnosed issue and quoted me $600 for a external service that would wipe my data clean. I found the Rossmann Group online and took a leap of faith - and it paid off in heaps. They were incredibly communicative and fixed the issue in a straightforward, economical, and honest way - and the data was preserved as original. Cannot recommend them enough!

My MacBook Pro (A1990) bricked and would not turn back on. I had years of family photos and important documents that were not backup up. Panicking, I first tried bringing my laptop to the local UBreakIFix. After weeks of delays and false promises (including losing my laptop for a few days), UBreakIFix told me that the logic board was damaged and I would need to pay for a replacement logic board, screen, and keyboard. In addition, my data would be unrecoverable. They were also insistent that I sell them my non-functioning MacBook, and I had to argue for days to get them to return my laptop so I could seek out other options. After doing my own research into logic board repairs for my specific model, I found out about Rossmann Repair and learned that it was indeed possible to fix my MacBook and recover my data. In fact, Louis had videos of my model's specific logic board being repaired on his YouTube channel. Unfortunately, they had moved out of the NYC area and I was hesitant to mail my laptop out due to my own skepticism. So, I searched for local specialists in Connecticut and found ThinqMac. My first conversation with one of their employees immediately made me feel that I was in good hands. The technicians ran some tests on my computer and eventually determined that, while they could not fix my MacBook in house, they knew about a place that could: Rossmann Repair. ThinqMac sent my laptop to Austin for me and dealt with all the communication with Rossmann. In the end, after being told by UBreakIFix and Apple that my data was unrecoverable and my computer would never turn on again, the folks at Rossmann Repair proved them wrong. My computer has been as good as new for the last 4 months and I was able to recover all of my data. While my experience with Rossmann Repair was indirect, I cannot recommend them enough. They took a devastating situation and turned it into a positive experience. Thank you for fixing my MacBook!

My (2018) Macbook pro's touchbar was not working, it would show the display but couldn't register touches. I initially contacted Apple and they quoted me $700 for the repair. I brought it to Rossmann on a Saturday and the guy at the front desk opened it up and tried cleaning the touchbar cable for me and said if that fixed the problem, it would be free. It did not fix the problem and they gave me a quote of $300 and said it would take until around Wednesday. I had to leave town on Tuesday and they said they would be able to ship it to me once it was repaired. On Tuesday morning, I got an email saying the repair was complete and I was able to pick it up before I left. It has been around 3 weeks since and I've had no problems with the touchbar. Highly recommend! They saved me $400 and the employees were super friendly

Ture Life Savers. TLDR; Don't waste your time with other repair services. Do yourself a favor and just take your machine to Rossmann Repair. You won't regret it. *Full Disclosure* - My repair was completed at the NY store, right before the cut-off for NY repairs (Dec 22). So this review will be for my experience at the old shop. However, Louis recently posted a Youtube video stating that most of the NY team has moved to Texas with him so, rest assured - you will get the same quality service. I've been following Louis and Rossmann Repair on Youtube for probably 3+ years so when my 27" iMac crashed, I knew exactly where to take it. I called Apple support first, just to check to see if they could do anything for me - but as expected - they were useless, and told me it would be better to buy a new machine since my computer was purchased in 2015 and was out of the supported repair window (of course they would). They recommended a few 3rd Party "Apple-Endorsed" repair shops in NYC that MIGHT be able to help me, but since the issue sounded complicated - they gave me a pretty bleak prediction. I preceded to call around to the 3 shops Apple recommended just to be thorough; 1 wouldn't take my machine, another one required a $150 down payment just to drop my machine off, and the other was closed. The one shop that did say they would take my machine was very short over the phone and provided ZERO assurance that they would be to fix the problems after explaining the issues - also note, I am fairly computer/tech literate and explained the issues very thoroughly - and yet, they still provided no indication of being able to help beyond: "Yeah well, bring it in and we'll let you know." That's when I knew: Louis - with his outlook for consumers - and Rossmann repair, was the only route to take. I called Rossmann the second I got off the phone with the other quack repair shops and within 5 Minutes of talking, they were concise, confident, and thorough with the steps and timeline required to fix my machine and retrieve my data; It was a no-brainer. Truly a night-and-day experience. I brought my iMac the next day. One week after I brought my machine, they followed up with a call confirming the issue (per the diagnosis) and asked me how I wanted to proceed - outlining costs, time frames, and our next check-in. A week later they told me they successfully retrieved my data (from the failing HD in my machine) and asked if I wanted to resume with the repair to regain full functionality of my machine or if the data retrieval was enough - BEFORE ANY CHARGES OR ADDITIONAL PROCEDURES; of course, I consented. One week following that, my machine was fully fixed, and an external hard drive containing 15 years worth of data, memories, and work was waiting for me to pick up. And here I am, typing this review on it now - it works flawlessly. No bullshit, no hassle, and EXTREMELY reasonably priced for the amount of work and time spent on my machine. Hopefully, I never have to send another machine to Rossmann repair but, if I need to, you'll be my go-to 100% of the time. Louis, my deepest thank you for all that you do; for your customers, for the community, and in the fight for the right to repair. And to the team at Rossmann, thank you for being patient, thorough, and supportive for when people's lives crash because of the technology we are all now beholden to. Had an amazing experience at Rossmann. They recovered 100% of my data 3 days post water damage on my iPhone. They finished the job same day and helped me transfer everything onto my new phone. They're amazing, 5+ stars!!

I don’t leave reviews often, but this one is definitely warranted. My Mac died on me and all the computer repair shops told me there was slim chance of recovering data. I had a lot of very important info on my computer, so I did some research and found the Rossmann Repair Group. Not only did they recover my data, but were able to get my computer working again. They deserve more than 5 stars, thank you so much for saving my laptop!! Will definitely be using them in future if I have other issues with my other devices.

World-class Mac repair service. If you want it done right and fast, this is the shop. Rossmann Repair had my damaged Macbook Pro screen replaced and ready for pick up less than six hours after drop off. Prior to that, I had spilled a cup of tea on another laptop- they successfully retrieved all data. Their quiet, friendly efficiency is very much appreciated pandemic or not. Great guys and gals.

My 2017 Macbook Pro's hard drive got bricked after updating to Apple's Catalina OS (no hard drive was detected). *Yes, Apple's software update physically corrupted my hard drive. I went to my local Apple store and was quoted over $800 to get my Macbook in working order, despite the issue happening because of a known Apple bug. I've been watching Louis's videos on YouTube for some time and decided to ship my Macbook from Hawaii to his shop in New York. I had the pleasure of visiting the Rossmann Repair Group in NYC one day almost two years ago as friends of mine needed an evaluation of a broken Macbook Pro, a bad hard drive and possible data transfer. Louis Rossmann greeted us immediately and was very friendly and patient. He told us exactly what the problem was and said that the Macbook Pro was beyond repair due to bad GPU connections. In fact he saw this as soon as he turned it on, he could detect very faint lines on the screen which indicated this issue. He was very honest about this, he said that some places would get it to work for a while by heating it up and charging a few hundred dollars, but that the repair would not last long and it would certainly fail again. My friend asked him if he could transfer the data from the Macbook to a Mac Mini so it would work like the Macbook. He said he could and it would take a couple of days. We returned a few days later to pick everything up. The cost was very reasonable and my friends were very satisfied with the service. He gave the bad HD back to us, said it would require sending to a recovery center. Just honest. No ripoffs. In this tech repair industry, dishonesty is very common since tech people know the average person has no clue about any of this technology and there is almost no chance they would know if they are being fooled or how much the repair is really worth. I know this well since I also do computer and electronics repair and support myself and I know how easy it would be to fool customers left and right! I don't do this and I highly appreciate other tech experts who aren't tempted to profit from people's trust and innocence! So in summary, if you don't want to get ripped of and lied to, and are looking for a highly competent reliable technician, make sure you go here with your Mac equipment. If you like, you can stop by an Apple Genius bar first for a good laugh, while they give you the wrong diagnosis, quote you an insanely high repair price, and try to convince you to buy a whole new unit. Finally, if you want to be amazed, look for Louis Rossmann on YouTube and watch some of his videos where he shows exactly how he repairs the "unrepairable" and inspires many others to do their own repairs, start their own repair businesses and with his tireless entrepreneurial positive attitude even motivates disillusioned young students to not give up on school and go to college! (In fact one student said he was about to give up on education but after watching Louis on YouTube he made the decision to enter Med school! Now that's remarkable!) Louis is such a great guy, that in some cases where the issue is very minor, like a bad cable, he even does the repair for no charge! Try to find anybody who is willing to do anything for no charge these days! (The Genius bar would certainly tell you that your unit has been water damaged, when it wasn't, (maybe was in a humid room which would turn the water indicators red!) and quote you $1000 for a repair that would cost them $7 for the cable) Louis Rossmann is a hero, one of those rare individuals who make positive contributions to individuals and society every single day. I am pretty sure that anybody who gives him a bad review probably either is part of Apple, or considers Apple to be some kind of religious deity.

I was a big fan of Rossmann. I have been watching him on YouTube for years. Naturally, when I was having a hardware problem with my Framework Laptop, I was so excited to be able to use the business owned by one of my heroes. I emailed them in advance since I know they focus on Apple Product repair. They emailed me warning it may take several weeks. I thought to myself. I can wait as long as it takes, I just want my issue resolved so I shipped it out. The issue was after a spill on the charge port the machine would periodically stop charging and need the power cable re-seated. I shipped it out and waited. I even pre-approved like 300 dollars for repairs. I was ready to pay the price for quality work. Finally, they call me to tell me they cannot fix it. They said they observed the issue but saw no signs of water damage and found no shorts on the board and said all they could do was a data backup. I said why would I pay for a data backup of a working drive? They said good point. I pleaded please maybe if you look at it for longer or have another tech check it out you can figure it out. They refused and shipped it back (at cost to me but I knew that going in). I basically gave up. I figured if the legendary Rossmann can't fix it then nobody can. One day a week later I walked past a repair shop in NYC called iFixit. I walked in and told them my story and they seemed super confident they could fix it and would not charge to take a look. Less than a week later they called and said it was fixed 95 bucks please. I was excited and skeptical. I picked it up and paid. I asked what they had done and all they did was clean the motherboard (like ultrasonic cleaning I think). I was worried. There was no way this would be all that was needed, because no way Rossmann's people missed such an easy fix. Well It's been weeks and I can confirm this was all that was needed. My Framework is now fully functional. I am thrilled but so disappointed. Rossmann Repair Group has been the biggest disappointment for me of the entire year of 2023. I seriously hope that my experience was the exception to the rule and that everyone else is having a better experience. My experience was what I expect from Geek Squad at Best Buy. Now I worked for Geek Squad and its great to send your mum or granny to get a virus cleaned and a basic hard drive data backup, but real repairs its not the place you want to go. I thought Rossmann was... I was wrong. iFixit in NYC was the place to go. Finishing the story: I received a call from Rossmann Repair. Initially I didn't take the call. I figured it was going to be an underhanded attempt to get me to amend the review above. When I got a second call several minutes later I figured I would take the call and see what they were going to say. The gentleman that was speaking said they wanted to talk about the review I had left. They wanted to let me know what happened from their side. I was skeptical but already on the phone and to be fair nobody had been unprofessional in their communications with me so I felt it would be rude not to let the man finish. Ultimately he told me that they dropped the ball and that my review was one of the few bad reviews that was justified. He went over in great detail what had happened from their end and why they believed there was no option for repair. He really wanted to convey that they were sorry they let me down that this truly was an anomaly and I believe him. I will be changing the review from a 1 to a 2 star but will not change the contents only add this ending to the story. While I doubt I will be using Rossmann Repair again I do believe they are a capable and professional shop. Edit: I have since received correspondence from Louis Rossmann himself and I truly believe that I am an edge case and that this shop is an amazing place and I just got very unlucky. Thank you Louis. Keep up all the good work you do.

I've been a fan of Louis Rossman for years. Finally I had a hard drive issue and sent it out to them. They quoted me one price and it ended being less than expected. They repaired the data and recovered it to another drive!!! The customer service was straight forward and no beating around the bush. The helped me get what i need done.

I bellowed as I entered, despite never being a customer before."What it is, NERD" retorted Rossman, decked out in some weird mixture of a dog and raver-clown costume.While I tried explaining that I was looking to replace my HHD with an SSD he interrupted and said "hold on a minute", and immediately jumped the counter and started rolling around on the floor, ecstatically, like some sort of mad man."I'm a pew-pew roller coaster on my way to tinsel town, and not a hogwash in a tornado can stop me!" he exclaimed.He then made "airplane noises" as he went around and around on the floor.I was shocked and amused."I'll puck off every straw kettle this side of the Mason Dixie line! Even the spanked tangerine ones! I ain't no bigot!" he continued.I didn't know what to think.Just then another customer entered the store.Rossman jumped up and loudly stomped up to the customer, very child-like."I am very mister business man to meet you" Rossman said, as he stuck out his hand in a shaking gesture.But the costumer just collapsed into gleaming sands! No kidding!Rossman turned to me in amazement and said "DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS? WE'RE PRESIDENT PARTIES NOW!".I had no idea what that meant, but that was just the beginning of our adventures.2 million years later and a Time Trucker later, we arrived back at his store (and hour before I originally entered) and he quoted me a price on SSDs, drive cloning and labor.Best darn repair shop ever.He was the best friend a guy could ask for and the greatest space pilot I'd ever known, (and an ever better repair man!).Here's to you, Rossman!

I was getting an unmountable boot volume error that was just unrecoverable from. It's an old computer that had served me well. It had been SO consistent over the years I had gotten lazy with backups and was nowhere near current. I was given a quote after diagnosis for recovery of data place on a new external drive. I told them specifically what folders to aim for and as it turned out the were able to recover the entire root structure in the format I requested so I just need to copy my old document, video, picture and music files onto a new computer I purchased as a replacement once I got the bad news of its passing. What rocks is that I now have my files back. AND a new external hard drive to use as my backup and a reminder to never forget that lesson. (Can you say automatic back ups?) Thanks Kevin and crew. Oh... and they said it was easier than expected and reduced the quote to reflect the time they saved on the easier recovery.Lastly, they were kind, listened, timely for this kind if work which is very time intensive and had a very conscious "no contact" in and out process that is SO appreciated at this time.
