MacBook Water Damage Repair; Liquid Spills, Corrosion & No-Power

MacBook liquid damage repair costs $125 to $625 depending on which components the spill reached: keyboards run $175 to $350, trackpads $125 to $250, and logic board repairs $250 to $425 for most models (rare cases requiring donor boards reach ~$625). The first step after any spill is to power the MacBook off immediately; electricity flowing through wet circuits accelerates corrosion and raises repair cost. We perform component-level logic board repair, not the $750 to $1,600 full-board replacements Apple quotes. Every repair starts with ultrasonic cleaning to remove corrosion from under BGA chips and shielding where a toothbrush cannot reach, followed by diagnosis under a microscope to identify and replace each damaged component. Free evaluation, no fix = no charge on qualifying board repairs. Walk in to our Austin lab or mail your MacBook in from anywhere in the U.S.

We fix spill damage the right way: component-level logic board repair, ultrasonic cleaning, and replacement of liquid-damaged parts. Free estimate, no pressure, no data / no fix = no charge. Visit our Austin lab or use our nationwide mail-in service.

MacBook liquid damage repair; mail it in or come to our store

You poured water, juice, or beer into your laptop. Don't panic; this is what we fix for a living. You'll receive an assessment of exactly what the spill damaged and what needs to be repaired at no charge. If it's not worth fixing, you can take it back at no cost. If you're local, stop by our Austin store. If you're not, mail your MacBook in for a free estimate.

Spill damage corrodes sensitive components; but it's not unfixable. At Apple, you'll often hear $750-$1600 flat-rate quotes to replace the entire board. That's a board swap. We prefer engineering: repair usable parts you already own and restore functionality at a fair price.

Important: if liquid gets inside, stop using the MacBook immediately. Powering it on lets electricity flow through wet, shorted components and makes corrosion worse. Minimizing damage early increases the chance of a fast, affordable repair.

Severe corrosion from MacBook water damage
Even severe corrosion is repairable; but early shutdown helps.

When you come to Rossmann's, we fix it

What sets Rossmann Repair Group apart? Many shops outsource board repair because they don't have the tools or experience. That causes delays, surprises, and a game of telephone between you and a third-party lab.

With us, the buck stops here. We repair your MacBook and its logic board in-house. We've taught thousands of technicians via free YouTube content, guides and personal instruction.

Watch: Liquid damage in real time (microscope)

This clip starts exactly where corrosion becomes visible (03:06). You'll see bubbles and "paths" form as electricity flows through moisture on the logic board; and how the reaction stops the moment power is cut. This is why we say: after a spill, power it off.

What the on-screen numbers mean

  • Upper-left: PPBUS_G3H; the main power rail on MacBook logic boards. It should sit around 12.56-12.6 V. When water hits, you'll see it jump toward ~17 V and then sag; clear evidence the circuit isn't regulating normally. Sending 17 volts to things that expect 12 volts ends bad!
  • Bubbles / movement: that's an electrochemical reaction actively corroding components. When power is cut, the bubbles stop because the reaction stops.
  • • Voltage shouldn't swing like this; moisture creates shorts and backfeed.
  • • Re-powering while wet accelerates damage and raises repair cost/time.
  • • Powering off immediately limits corrosion and improves repair outcomes.
Microscopic view of a MacBook power circuit reacting to water while powered; voltage overlay shows PPBUS_G3H deviating from its normal ~12.6V.

Before & after

Before: heavy corrosion on MacBook logic board
Before
After: cleaned and repaired MacBook board
After

At the time of photographing, that board alone cost ~$750 as a part. We repaired it for $325; and it's still alive & kicking.

Typical repair pricing

Pricing depends on model and the extent of corrosion/part damage. Here's a realistic range based on thousands of successful repairs:

Keyboard
$175-$350 (model dependent)
Trackpad
$125-$250 (model dependent)
Logic Board Repair
$250-$425 (most); rare/newer cases up to ~$625 when donor boards are required
Board + Keyboard + Trackpad
$300-$625 (model dependent)

Frequently asked questions

Can a MacBook with water damage be repaired?
Yes. Most spill-damaged boards can be restored with proper cleaning and component-level repair. The sooner it's powered off and dried (don't keep trying to turn it on), the better your odds.
Does Apple cover water damage?
Liquid damage is not covered under standard Apple warranties. Apple often quotes high flat-rate board replacements. We repair at the component level, which is usually more affordable.
How much does liquid damage repair cost?
It depends on what the liquid damaged. Typical ranges: keyboard $175–$350, trackpad $125–$250, logic board repair $250–$425 (rare cases up to ~$625 when donor parts are required).
Will my MacBook Air work after spilled water?
Usually, yes, after proper cleaning and repair. Do not keep turning it on; that spreads damage. Bring it in or mail it to our lab for a free estimate.

I was a big fan of Rossmann. I have been watching him on YouTube for years. Naturally, when I was having a hardware problem with my Framework Laptop, I was so excited to be able to use the business owned by one of my heroes. I emailed them in advance since I know they focus on Apple Product repair. They emailed me warning it may take several weeks. I thought to myself. I can wait as long as it takes, I just want my issue resolved so I shipped it out. The issue was after a spill on the charge port the machine would periodically stop charging and need the power cable re-seated. I shipped it out and waited. I even pre-approved like 300 dollars for repairs. I was ready to pay the price for quality work. Finally, they call me to tell me they cannot fix it. They said they observed the issue but saw no signs of water damage and found no shorts on the board and said all they could do was a data backup. I said why would I pay for a data backup of a working drive? They said good point. I pleaded please maybe if you look at it for longer or have another tech check it out you can figure it out. They refused and shipped it back (at cost to me but I knew that going in). I basically gave up. I figured if the legendary Rossmann can't fix it then nobody can. One day a week later I walked past a repair shop in NYC called iFixit. I walked in and told them my story and they seemed super confident they could fix it and would not charge to take a look. Less than a week later they called and said it was fixed 95 bucks please. I was excited and skeptical. I picked it up and paid. I asked what they had done and all they did was clean the motherboard (like ultrasonic cleaning I think). I was worried. There was no way this would be all that was needed, because no way Rossmann's people missed such an easy fix. Well It's been weeks and I can confirm this was all that was needed. My Framework is now fully functional. I am thrilled but so disappointed. Rossmann Repair Group has been the biggest disappointment for me of the entire year of 2023. I seriously hope that my experience was the exception to the rule and that everyone else is having a better experience. My experience was what I expect from Geek Squad at Best Buy. Now I worked for Geek Squad and its great to send your mum or granny to get a virus cleaned and a basic hard drive data backup, but real repairs its not the place you want to go. I thought Rossmann was... I was wrong. iFixit in NYC was the place to go. Finishing the story: I received a call from Rossmann Repair. Initially I didn't take the call. I figured it was going to be an underhanded attempt to get me to amend the review above. When I got a second call several minutes later I figured I would take the call and see what they were going to say. The gentleman that was speaking said they wanted to talk about the review I had left. They wanted to let me know what happened from their side. I was skeptical but already on the phone and to be fair nobody had been unprofessional in their communications with me so I felt it would be rude not to let the man finish. Ultimately he told me that they dropped the ball and that my review was one of the few bad reviews that was justified. He went over in great detail what had happened from their end and why they believed there was no option for repair. He really wanted to convey that they were sorry they let me down that this truly was an anomaly and I believe him. I will be changing the review from a 1 to a 2 star but will not change the contents only add this ending to the story. While I doubt I will be using Rossmann Repair again I do believe they are a capable and professional shop. Edit: I have since received correspondence from Louis Rossmann himself and I truly believe that I am an edge case and that this shop is an amazing place and I just got very unlucky. Thank you Louis. Keep up all the good work you do.

HIGHLIGHT & CONCLUSION ******Overall I'm having a good experience with this store because they have great customer services, best third party replacement parts, justify price for those replacement parts, short estimate waiting time to fix the device, 1 year warranty, and good prediction of pricing and the device life conditions whether it can fix it or not.******* **Please read the whole ranting comments!!!!!!** This Repair Shops is the best, same as Louis Rossmann YouTube channel. *I know that Rosemann Repair Group doesn't offer "Original Apple parts" for those replacement but they offers the best quality NEW parts for those replacement, honestly I don't care either is original or not as long I'm able to use my iPhone 6s Plus*. All parts that the Rossmann Repair Group offers is mostly NEW from the third party. They also have great customer service and they actually told you the estimate cost of the product repairs unlike other repairs shops who don't tell you untill they perform a diagnostic and they also charge you a extreme expensive fees such as just opening the phone without any repairs fees and they mostly offer the cheap quality parts for those replacement. Today August 12, 2019 I bring my iPhone 6s Plus that won't turn ON, I'm mostly know what is the problem so I tell them my issue and what I'm thinking is the cause because basically my iPhone didn't water damage, my iPhone just randomly stop turning ON after I play a game on the phone and the low battery sign show up than I plugged into a charger to charge up but after 2 hour I still don't see my screen ON so I had done some research online and what I'm come out is basically 3 major reason might causing my device of not turning ON. 1 might be the battery too old and can't handle any high voltage anymore. 2 might be the screen LCD. And the third I'm very afraid that this is my issue and that is the logic board, a logic board replacement it almost cost like a brand new phone. *Even though Rossmann Repair Group replacement parts isn't original, at the same time it doesn't even matter because my device is already old enough* COMPARED WITH APPLE, APPLE PROBABLY HAVE ORIGINAL PARTS FOR THOSE REPLACEMENT BUT IS NOT GUARANTEE THAT WHETHER THOSE PARTS ARE "NEW" OR EVEN DOESN'T GUARANTEE THAT THEY GOTTA FIX IT FOR YOU. THEY MY REPLACE THE ENTIRE DEVICE FOR A HIGHER PRICE OE FORCING YOU TO BUY A NEW GENERATION IPHONE. APPLE ALSO MIGHT CHARGE YOU FOR JUST GETTING LOOK INSIDE OF YOU DEVICE. FINALLY, APPLE MIGHT LET YOU WAIT FOR 3-5 WEEKS OR EVEN THE WHOLE MONTHS. HIGHLIGHT & CONCLUSION Overall I'm having a good experience with this store because they have great customer services, best third party replacement parts, justify price for those replacement parts, short estimate waiting time to fix the device, 1 year warranty, and good prediction of pricing and the device life conditions whether it can fix it or not. But however, Louis Rossmann if you reading my review please offers a iPad, iPhone or even a iPod touch for NEW customers to sign in and fill out the form because even though you offer a check it device/tablet, the device it doesn't even work properly but however Rossmann Repair Group take theirs jobs into the next level, the staff who work in the front door repair shop take out his personal iPhone for me to register/sign in/fill out the form. That is even better than a great customer service, is very very great customer service. That what I call the extreme customer service who take their jobs into the next level. "FUNNY STAFF" I know Louis is a YouTuber and need to edit sound, video, lighting, camera angle, etc but Louis take his video/audio editing into the next level by playing his staff recorded voice in the loud speaker. They have good communication skills with customer, the front Landy and the young men have very fun expression with customer.

What can I say other than cheers...your are an oasis in a desert of planned obsolescence! Some water damage had my MacBook Air acting up...smc non resettable, fans running constantly, then my keyboard bugged out with nonsense coming from all of its keys... Genius Bar quoted me a repair requiring an entire logic board replacement...was my 2015 Air even worth that cost anymore? There it sat, with me vacillating between the refurbished store and a 'college try' at a repair A local certified Apple repair guy WAS able to simply replace a cable, and the sensors that had failed in the logic board according to Genius Bar now worked fine, trouble was that my own inquisitive (read maladroit) nature found me breaking the battery connector off the board while monkeying around inside the Air, a repair which the local independent tried to fix without success (pads were gone he said..no joy for me). Again I was looking at logic board replacement for 'slightly' less than Genius Bar repair, or to just use it as a constantly plugged in desktop machine(???). Upon pick up at my local guy I immediately put it into the mail to Louis and the guys at Rossmann...little more than a week later I am typing this review on said formerly wet and sad MacBook Air. In fact, they even honored the lower of the two quotes I was sent! That said, there is no going back for me. My exposure to Rossmann Repair Group was initially through late night viewings of his youtube channel, whether it was the measured delivery of his absolute common sense views on 'right to repair' issues, or indeed, of the world in general, perhaps it also being a 'relaxation video' (like watching paints being swirled together or cookies being frosted) aspect of watching heated liquid flux run across a board, I honestly don't know...but I'll take it all! Bravo!

Sent Rossmann Repair a 5 year old MacBook Air that had water spilled on it and would not boot up. The Apple Genius Bar had stated that with the damage from the liquid it was not worth repairing (too costly / no guarantee it would continue to work). Within a few days I received a notification from Rossmann that it had been fixed and I only owed $25 for return shipping. Turns out just a cable to the trackpad/keyboard needed to be replaced, which Rossmann did at no cost to me. So for $41 ($16 to ship there, plus $25 for return), I now have a working MacBook back in hand! Highly recommend Rossmann Repair for all of your Apple repair needs.
