Our story

Rossmann Repair Group was founded in 2008 by Louis Rossmann after walking out of a dishonest repair shop that tried to break a customer’s device to avoid paying for a repair.

Starting with $250 in equipment in Midtown Manhattan, Louis performed repairs for live audiences while explaining the technical details: education that shaped our philosophy.

In 2020, we moved to Austin, Texas, escaping NYC bureaucracy while doubling down on in-house, component-level repairs and data recovery.

Our values

We believe a better world exists when more knowledge is available. That’s why we educate while we repair.

Honesty & Transparency

Clear pricing, no hidden fees, and honest assessments. We don’t push unnecessary repairs.

Component-Level Expertise

We fix actual failing components, not just swap boards. Real engineering, not marketing theater.

Customer-First Approach

Founded by walking out of a dishonest repair shop. We prioritize your best interests over profits.

No Data = No Charge

If we can’t recover your data, you pay nothing except return shipping.

How we treat people

We don't take jobs we can't do right

If we're not the best option, we'll point you to who is. Your outcome matters more than a quick invoice.

Free estimates; no diagnostic fees

We'll tell you what's wrong and what it costs. If mail-in isn't repairable, you only cover return shipping.

Respect for your time

Stocked parts, clear communication, and realistic turnarounds. No runaround.

No lying to pad the bill

A cable swap isn't "data recovery." Most work is visible; we explain what we're doing and why.

Pricing philosophy

We charge for the job; not your "willingness to pay." Pricing is consistent and published. Sometimes that means we make less; that's fine.

We also share knowledge freely. Teaching others how to repair doesn't hurt us; it improves the industry and keeps us honest.

We teach what we do

We regularly post board-repair and recovery content. Here's a taste:
